The romance of wind and waves - and the terror that they sometimes inspired in men of the sea - is all a part of the maritime culture. I hope you'll agree that I've captured something of the romance and magic of sailing in my Naval and Maritime Art.
Whether charter fishing, pleasure sailing, paddling canoe, kayak or raft - there is often a sense of liberty and adventure in plying the water by boat. There is also, many times, a great dread and awe that comes over the traveller of the waters when misfortune, storm or accident occur, and the truth of Psalm 107 is incised deeply into the consciousness: "Some went down to the sea in ships... they saw the deeds of the Lord, his wondrous works in the deep, For he commanded and raised the stormy wind, which lifted up the waves of the sea... they reeled and staggered like drunken men, and were at their wits' end."
I am captivated by the romance of the age of sail - from the swift clippers that harnessed the wind to cross oceans in record time, to the mighty frigates and dreadnoughts that responded with aplomb to the commands of their captains and the executed orders of their crews, even down to the humblest craft of the fisher and merchant - and one of my greatest pleasures is to capture and convey all the things that move me about wind, sea and sail for the collectors of my art.
